Questioning the communication

Speaking on commentary for Alcaraz's third-round match against Sebastian Korda, McEnroe questioned Juan Carlos Ferrero's (Alcaraz's coach) constant communication with Alcaraz.

"A lot of talking"

According to Tennis 365, McEnroe said: "Never heard a coach I don't think, maybe Tsitsipas' old man, but there's a lot of talking going on."

"I need him in the box"

Alcaraz has defended his coach's techniques: "A lot of things happen between us in the professional and personal part, but I need him in the box." He added, "I need everything he tells me from the box and it's really helpful to give my 100% on the court."

Integral role

Since the pair started working together in 2018, Ferrero has played an integral role in shaping Alcaraz's early success against tennis' best players.

Youngest world number one

Alcaraz, who turned 21 on the 5th of May, became the youngest-ever world number one after his maiden Grand Slam victory at the US Open in 2022.

Second major title

He secured his second major crown at Wimbledon in 2023, defeating tennis GOAT and seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic in a five-set final.

Silencing the doubters

Alcaraz's coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, is also a former world number one and French Open champion. Can he spur his player on to win his first French Open title and silence the doubters over his coaching techniques?
