Ferrari's missed opportunity

Aston Martin snatched a great deal out of the blue, signing Adrian Newey from Red Bell as their new managing technical partner. Nigel Mansell (1992 World Champion) claims Ferrari was "short-sighted" and let a golden opportunity pass them by.

The one and only

Adrian Newey is regarded by many as 'the most successful F1 technical expert', in other words, he designed cars that win championships.

Important for the team

The 65-year-old British engineer was instrumental in Red Bull's dominance, with Vettel and Verstappen leading campaigns.

Ferrari's history with Newey

Ferrari has attempted to sway Newey multiple times with very lucrative officers. After finishing his contract with Red Bull in 2025, Ferrari looked like the next step. Pairing one of the strongest F1 teams alongside one of the best engineers in the paddock sure sounded like a good idea.

Reluctance in negotiation

Ferrari's team principal, Fred Vasseur, reportedly negotiated with Newey, but the deal collapsed after Ferrari backed away, refusing to meet his financial demands.

Ferrari's 'loss'

Nigel Mansell, the 1992 f1 Champion who snatched a remarkable set of victories with Newey's Williams, criticized Ferrari for not securing such a big transfer. "They should be licking their wounds", shared the former driver on Motorsport.

Big impact for Aston Martin

Mansell praised Aston Martin's decision to bring in Newey, predicting it would 'revolutionize' the team and potentially be his greatest achievement.

Red Bull feeling it already

The 1992 F1 Champion also pointed out how Red Bull began to lose their dominance the moment Newey left their paddock, underlying Newey's impact on the team.

Hesitation over cost?

Ferrari hesitated over Newey's salary demands, and that opened the doors for other teams. Newey confirmed that Aston Martin was his clear and natural choice, implying a fresh start and renewed energy.

"Something very special"

Newey's move to Aston Martin has many people wondering how much of an impact the British engineer will have on the British team. Mansell believes Newey's work there could be "something very special," according to PlanetF1.
