Former World Cup winner Dunga nearly killed in horrific crash

According to reports by The Sun, former Brazil player and manager Dunga has survived a near-fatal crash in his home country.

Dunga, who was accompanied by his wife, Evanir Verri, was travelling from Sao Paulo to Campina Grande do Sul on Saturday, the 13th of July when he crashed.

The car was seriously damaged during the crash, with images of the incident showing it upside down on the side of the motorway.

Reports suggest emergency services reached the accident site quickly, removing the 1994 World Cup winner and his wife from the scene and rushing them to hospital

Dunga and his wife, who was in the passenger seat, suffered minor injuries and were discharged just a day later, per The Sun.

Dunga’s son, Bruno, released a statement following the incident saying, “To everyone who was concerned and supported the family, to the truck driver who immediately helped with first aid and to the Angelina Caron Hospital, where we were very well looked after by the team.”

The Sun confirmed police reports that Dunga was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

VN Express has reported the accident was caused by a “slippery road after heavy rain”.

Dunga is a legend in his home country, having led his national team to World Cup glory in 1994 with his side beating Italy on penalties at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. He was also a two-time Copa America winner and won an Olympic silver medal.

Following his playing career, Dunga moved into management, taking charge of the Brazilian side in two spells, from 2006 to 2010 and again from 2014 to 2016.
