College career

Sue Bird was recruited by ten major colleges in high school but ultimately chose UConn, winning two national championships, three Big East championships, and Big East regular season titles, according to USAB.

A winner

After leading UConn as the number one women's basketball program, in the four years, Bird spent there, her record when playing was 114-4, as Reported by the University of Connecticut.

WNBA success

Over 20 years as a member of the Seattle Storm, Sue Bird dominated the WNBA, securing four championships in three different decades.

Leading the league

According to the WNBA, Bird was the WNBA assists leader in 2005, 2009, and 2016 and led the league in points, rebounds, and assists in 2009 and 2016.

Olympics

The WNBA star is one of a select few to compete at five Olympic Games, starting at the 2004 Athens Games and finishing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Gold

In all five Olympics, Bird never failed to win the gold medal, becoming one of the USA's greatest winners in all of sports, according to the Olympic website.

Europe

And if winning in or for the USA wasn't enough, Bird tasted glory in Europe, playing on the continent for three different Russian teams (Dynamo Moscow, Spartak Moscow Region, UMMC Ekaterinburg).

EuroLeague success

Across ten years of playing in Europe in the WNBA offseason, Bird was a Russian National League and EuroLeague champion five times, including two Europe Super Cup wins, according to Business Insider.

Of course, a career as successful as Bird's will leave her as the number one player in many statistical categories, ranking first in six of them.

A legend

According to the WNBA website, her most notable lead rankings are; most games played (580) and first, in minutes played (18,080), Bird is the WNBA assists leader (3,234) and has made the most All-Star appearances (13).

Jersey retired

In June 2023, Bird had incredible achievements recognized, having her number ten jersey hung from the Seattle Storm rafters.

According to ESPN, in Megan Rapinoe's speech at the jersey ceremony, she said: "Congratulations on arguably the best career that anyone has ever had in the history of any sport ever."
