Is Andy Murray about to retire from tennis?

Former British number one Andy Murray lost in five sets to world number five Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round at Wimbledon.

Murray was two sets to one up before the 11 pm curfew suspended play till the next day. A rejuvenated Tsitsipas recovered well and controlled the next day.

The Scot was defeated on the tenth anniversary of his maiden Wimbledon title, a slam that feels like a lifetime ago for Murray and his fans alike.

According to skysports.com, Murray said: "I don't plan to stop right now. But this one will take a little while to get over. Hopefully, I'll find the motivation again to keep training."

In the weeks leading up to Wimbledon, Murray had been playing his best tennis since 2017, winning Surbiton and the Nottingham Open, making it ten wins in a row.

Murray was dealt a huge blow to his Wimbledon hopes at the Queen's Championship, losing in straight sets to Alex de Minaur in the first round.

Despite the loss in the opening round at Queen's Club, Murray looked like his old self in the first round at Wimbledon, beating Ryan Peniston 6-3, 6-0, 6-1.

Now, after a loss in the second round to the world number five, questions have arisen as to whether Murray can compete at the highest level again.

Before his Wimbledon opening round, Murray admitted that one more injury could end his career, but he has plans to retire soon.

According to theexpress.co.uk, Murray said: "I have an idea in my head of when I would like to stop. That's not definitive."

"A lot of that is just. I think it is good to do that (have an idea when to stop) so you can start planning a little bit."

On a live BBC broadcast, three-time Wimbledon champion John McEnroe called for Murray to hang up his racket and focus on his home life.

According to express.co.uk, McEnroe said: "I don't know if the missus will put her foot down a little bit like 'hey, I need some help at home.'"

Murray has four kids at home with his wife, Kim Sears, prompting fans to think he may continue so he can continue to get more sleep at tournaments.

McEnroe said: "His love for the game, he loves it so much he loves to compete. Maybe he needs some sleep; I've got six kids, and he's got four now - trust me, when you play tournaments, you get more sleep."

With speculation up in the air as to whether Murray will continue to play, the former world number one has one more shot at Grand Slam victory this year, with the US Open starting in August.
