Jimmy Butler’s billion-dollar empire away from the basketball court

Jimmy Butler is the franchise player of the Miami Heat, earning $45 million annually, according to Forbes, but his off-the-court business could help the forward become a billionaire.

As the world went into lockdown and the NBA moved to Orlando for the 'NBA Bubble,' Butler created a master plan that would see his wealth skyrocket past anything he could imagine.

Between games in the bubble, players had the chance to relax, sit by the pool, or play video games. Not Butler, who cashed in on the money of fellow NBA players, charging $20 for a cup of coffee, according to CNBC.

Butler had brought a coffee machine and coffee beans from El Salvador into the bubble with him, charging a premium due to the lack of competition and the quality of the drink.

According to The Sun, Butler received positive reviews and profit, and after a tough loss in the 2020 NBA Finals, he decided to take his business to new heights.

Upon leaving the bubble, Butler got his company trademarked, naming it 'Big Face' and purchasing $60,000 in coffee beans.

Butler officially launched 'Big Face' on International Coffee Day in 2021, opening pop-up coffee shops at the Miami Open and collaborating with Lids on Miami Beach, as reported by CNBC.

Butler has his eyes set on selling his premium coffee for $100 a cup, saying: "Specialty coffee is real, and a $100 cup is coming soon." According to The Mirror.

According to The Mirror, it takes Starbucks 364 million cups of coffee with an average price of $2.75 to reach $1 billion. However, at $100 a cup, it would only take 10 million cups sold to reach $1 billion.

In the finals between Miami and Denver, Butler made his 'Big Face' pop-up shops available to fans outside Miami's arena, making swift moves on and off the court.

In the 2023 NBA Playoffs, his red-hot form throughout led fans to call him 'Himmy Buckets' for his clutch play and leading Miami to their second final in four years.

In true Butler style, according to Josh Gerben, trademark attorney and founder of Gerben IP, Butler filed a trademark for 'Himmy Buckets' at the end of May 2023.

Butler plans to expand his business portfolio, using 'Himmy Buckets' as a business that sells coffee, soda, beer, bottled water, coffee cups, and clothing, should it be approved, as reported by Sports Illustrated.

Butler has a net worth of around $80 million, according to Sportskeeda, after playing for four different NBA franchises across a glittering 13-year NBA career. Despite that, Butler may have the ticket to skyrocket that net worth in the future.

After being asked what he will earn from 'Big Face,' Butler said: "It's not about that for me. I think basketball has been a great source of income for me and my family," as told by CNBC.

Butler plans to open a café in Miami and San Diego, where the Miami Heat star lives in the off-season, according to People magazine, maintaining a close involvement with the 'Bigface' venture.
