Crashing out

There is no doubting Kylian Mbappe is one of the greatest footballers in the world, but with his side crashing out in unconvincing style against Spain, fans are fuming at what he did at half-time!

“Embarrassing”

Per The Daily Mail, Mbappe was seen swapping shirts with a Spanish player at half-time, with one fan branding his actions as “embarrassing”.

Not the time

With his side 2-1 down following wonder goals by Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo, Mbappe was seen leaving the pitch shirtless, clutching a Spanish shirt in his hand.

“Not serious”

One fan on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “Mbappe swapping shirts at half time of a Euro semi final? Yeah this guy is not serious,” per The Daily Mail.

Mocking Mbappe

Other fans posted with similar sentiments, using laughing face emojis to mock the former PSG striker.

What would Roy Keane do?

Another fan wrote, “Mbappe swapping shirts at half time, somewhere there is a Roy Keane screaming at a TV,” with the Irish pundit famous for his harsh words about players being too friendly with their opponents.

Tough tournament

Mbappe’s tournament did not go how he planned, or how many predicted. Following an early injury to his face, Mbappe struggled to impact games in his usual way, his delightful cross to set up France’s opening goal against Spain proving to be his high watermark.

“Failure”

The newly signed Real Madrid player told reporters after the semi-final, “In football you're good or not good. I wasn't good. My Euro was a failure” in a brutally honest summation of his play.

Compounding issues

Perhaps Mbappe’s decision to swap shirts with a Spanish player at half-time made no difference to his team’s performance, but given his struggles for form throughout, it may not have been the most opportune moment to be seen being friendly with an opponent.

Is the football world overreacting to Mbappe’s shirt swap? Or is it an example of him not having the clinical instinct required to push his team to victory? Let us know in the comments!
