Michael Schumacher's son Mick Schumacher could well make a significant change in his racing career, with rumours linking him to IndyCar racing.

Keeping the dream alive

Schumacher has been the Mercedes reserve driver and also had a racing role in Alpine's WEC program after losing his seat with Haas in 2022.

Chances are slim

According to the Grand Prix website, Alpine and Williams' F1 teams have been interested in gaining his services, but the chances are slim, with Alpine junior drivers Jack Doohan and Victor Martins further up the list.

IndyCar

With his Formula One dreams seemingly fading away, Schumacher has been offered a potential lifeline in his racing career. At the Indy 500 on May 26th, Dayle Coyne, the owner of Dayle Coyne Racing, said he had been in touch with Schumacher over a potential switch to IndyCar.

“Schumacher is the perfect example”

Coyne said: "There are all these Formula 2 drivers who finish first or second but have no real future in Formula 1. Mick Schumacher is the perfect example. We would love to welcome such a great driver here."

IndyCar newcomer

Next year's IndyCar newcomer 'Prema' is said to be interested in Schumacher's racing ability, giving him multiple options if his F1 career fades away.

History with Prema

According to the Formula One website, Schumacher has a history with Prema, winning the 2018 Formula Three championship and the Formula Two championship in 2020. The Italian brand has links to Ferrari.

"Hopes on Alpine"

Coyne believes Schumacher is still focused on Formula One: "We are talking to Mick Schumacher, but he is still pinning his hopes on Alpine. I would be happy if we were given the chance."

Michael Schumacher

It's a much more difficult decision for Schumacher than other racing drivers, having seen his dad dominate Formula One for many years. Michael won 91 races and drove for Jordan, Benetton, Ferrari, and Mercedes.

"My dream"

Speaking in January 2024, Schumacher told the Formula One website: "My dream is of course to drive in Formula 1. It has always been like that, and it always will be like that."
