LaMelo Ball sued

LaMelo Ball of the Charlotte Hornets is being sued by the mother of a 12-year-old child for allegedly running over the child’s foot in October.

Spectrum Center

Per The Daily Mail, the incident took place outside the Hornets’ home arena, the Spectrum Center.

Autograph hunting

Reports from The Daily Mail and others suggest Ball was leaving an event in his Rolls-Royce SUV when the incident occurred. The child involved, Angell Joseph, was 11 at the time and was reportedly attempting to secure an autograph from Ball.

“Negligent”

Reports then claim Ball looked at Joseph before driving in a “grossly negligent and reckless manner,” per WSOC-TV.

Incident

Ball accelerated rapidly and struck Joseph, who fell to the floor in pain.

Mother’s words

Joseph’s mother, who is the driving force behind the legal action, told WSOC-TV, “I just seen my son kind of go down, and I thought maybe he had dropped something.”

Broken foot

The incident broke Joseph’s foot, per reports, which left him with “depression”. Joseph’s mother told WSOC-TV, “For a while, I couldn't even recognize who my child was because, like depression, not being able to go outside and play.”

Legal action

Cameron DeBrun, a lawyer representing Joseph, claims key information was left off the police report about the incident. This included LaMelo Ball’s insurance information, forcing Joseph’s family to pay the medical costs themselves.

Suing the Hornets

Per The Daily Mail, Joseph’s family and legal representation are also suing the Charlotte Hornets for, “failing to provide better security measures to keep their fans safe,” per Basket News.

Neither LaMelo Ball or the Hornets have released a statement in response to the legal action brought against them.
