NFL Trade Deadline: Trades we would love to see
With the NFL trade deadline falling on Halloween this year, things could be getting a little scary for some teams as they risk the future to acquire some more firepower for their 2023 season.
Last year saw a number of high-profile trades on the deadline, with Christian McCaffrey, Roquan Smith and Bradley Chubb moving to the Niners, Ravens, and Dolphins respectively. These were all mega-deals, suggesting teams are getting more and more willing to make splashes in the trade market. Let’s hope for more excitement this year!
So far it’s been the Eagles making the biggest splash, to no one’s surprise. The Birds have brought in Kevin Byard from the Titans in a very ‘Howie Roseman’ move. Elsewhere the Raiders have firmly rejected any rumors around Davante Adams’ availability.
Henry may not be the player he was two or three years ago, but he’s still a physically dominant runner who could add serious power to a team looking to go deep into January and beyond. We see the Cowboys as the best fit for Henry as they struggle to utilize Tony Pollard without the physical running of Ezekiel Elliott.
This is the best Lions team in most fans’ lifetimes, why not go all in and trade for a 24-year-old former Defensive Rookie of the Year in Chas Young? The Commanders are in a bad spot and could well be clearing house come the offseason, Young is an asset they should be willing to trade for the right price.
The Jets have so far stuck with Zach Wilson at QB, and they have been able to win some games. Ultimately he isn’t good enough to win in the playoffs, so why not go for a low-cost upgrade in Brissett? Washington seems committed to giving Sam Howell the season, opening the door for their backup to move on.
There’s a fire sale in Washington (at least in this gallery), everything must go! Montez Sweat would add some real venom to a Jags pass rush lacking in top-end talent. According to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post, there are already offers coming in.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini is reporting the Eagles may not be done yet. Linebacker is an obvious weakness in their defense, often papered over by the strength of their D-line, but why not sling the Broncos a day-three pick and upgrade in the middle of their defense?
The Eagles double-dip in Denver by trading for experienced OT, Garett Bolles. There are few teams in the NFL that focus more on building offensive line depth. This year there is less confidence in the backups than usual, meaning Philly could look for an affordable veteran to add to the mix. Bolles is a reliable tackle who could spell Lane Johnson if required.
Simmons is too good a player to be stuck on this iteration of the Broncos. The Bengals are hoping to finally kick into gear after a rocky start to the season and the addition of Simmons could provide the lift they need.
The Bills haven’t looked up to their usual standards so far in 2023, despite grinding out some wins. Offensively, their passing game goes through Stefon Diggs, with a big drop-off at WR beyond that. The emergence of Dalton Kincaid is encouraging, but why not add another talented pass-catcher for Josh Allen?
The Bills have been incredibly unlucky with injuries this season, losing All-Pro cornerback Tre’Davious White earlier in the season to an Achilles injury. Donte Jackson would fill a gaping hole in the Buffalo secondary.
Whilst intra-division trades are fairly rare, the Chiefs and Raiders are worlds apart in the standings and talent levels. The Chiefs are incredible without known quantities at WR, so why not add an experienced pass-catcher to the mix?
This would be a huge splash for the Lions, adding a formidable pass-rusher to a group already causing opposing QBs fits. Burns is young, talented, and on a Panthers side that needs to commit to the rebuild.
This is a much-mooted trade, suggesting there may be some smoke forming here. Jeudy has never quite got going in the NFL, yet the talent is there for all to see. He would be relatively inexpensive and give rookie Bryce Young a reliable target not named Adam Theilen.
Similarly to the Panthers, the Colts could look to add a young receiver to grow with their rookie QB. Anthony Richardson’s season looks to be over, but adding an experienced WR to their offense can only help his development moving forward.
