Much needed win

Chelsea got a much-needed win against Brighton in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, beating 'The Seagulls' 1-0 after a dismal start to the season.

Spending one billion

'The Blues' spent a Premier League record of £424.8 million in the summer transfer window, taking owner Todd Boehly's spending to around £1 billion since he arrived at the club in 2022.

Worst start for 44 years

Despite spending a ludicrous amount of money on new players, Saturday's defeat at home to Aston Villa meant it was Chelsea's worst start to a season since the 1978/79 season.

Rock bottom

That stat won't make good reading for Chelsea fans as it was the season Chelsea were relegated from the First Division with 20 points and finishing rock bottom.

One league win

Chelsea have only won one game this season, beating Luton Town at home and drawing with Liverpool and Bournemouth, losing the other three.

Can't find the net

With over 400 million spent in the summer, Chelsea failed to register a single league goal in September whilst playing two of those games at home.

Torrid year

This past month has been a reflection of the torrid time it's been at Chelsea in the last year, with some statistics leaving a bleak reading.

‘0.8’ points a game

According to talksport.com, former Chelsea player and Talk Sport presenter Jason Cundy said: "Chelsea's points per game over the last 35 matches, which is three short of a full season, is 0.8."

'Get you relegated'

"That would get you relegated in every single Premier League season and have you finish bottom or joint bottom in the seasons 1997, 1998, 2005, 2009, 2011, 2014, 2015, and 2018."

Eight wins in 2023

After their victory against Brighton yesterday, Chelsea have now won eight games in all competitions in 2023, including victories against Wimbledon, Luton, and Bournemouth.

The bigger picture

If you look at the bigger picture, Todd Boehly has chopped and changed the managers, but the influx of players and the squad size has led to consistently poor results at the club.

Since Potter left

Since Graham Potter was sacked by the club in April this year, Chelsea have only won twice in 16 Premier League games, gaining 11 points.

14th out of 17

In the past 38 Premier League games (a season), Chelsea has won nine times, leaving them 14th out of the 17 ever-present sides who have been in the league the last two seasons.

Striking frailties

The money spent has still led to Chelsea failing to bring in an elite striker, with Chelsea having the worst expected goals stat (-6.61), the second lowest big chance conversion (16.7%), and the second lowest shot conversion rate (5.5).

Coming up

After a terrible start, Chelsea will face Fulham, Burnley, and Brentford in October. Three games they should be confident to pick up points from. They also face Arsenal at Stamford Bridge to cap off the next few games.

Can they kickstart their season?

Chelsea's record has been woeful in 2023, but can they kickstart their season now after picking up a huge win over Brighton on Wednesday night?
