Another house hit

Sergio Ramos has fallen victim to yet another robbery. His house was targeted while he was out playing an official match with Sevilla, nevertheless, his children were inside of the house at the time of the incident.

Champions League night

The event took place on September 20, 2023, during a very important Champions League match for Sevilla FC. The match was played at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium against French team RC Lens.

'La Alegría' farm

The robbery took place at 'La Alegría' farm, located in Bollullos de la Mitación (Sevilla), where Ramos lives with his family - his wife Pilar Rubio, and his four children.

Very close to the Andalusian capital

The farm, of 44 hectares and which has all the security measures that people of the status of Sergio Ramos and Pilar Rubio can afford, is located in an area known as 'La Juliana', about 20 kilometers from Seville capital.

Sergio Ramos and Pilar Rubio were not there

The assault on the property, according to investigation sources, occurred during the night, at a time when neither Sergio Ramos, for his party, nor Pilar Rubio, were there.

Home alone

Those who were there, however, were the couple's four children – Sergio Jr., Marco, Máximo Adriano and Alejandro – accompanied by the caregivers the partents had left in charge. Fortunately, no one was harmed during the assault.

Perfectly organized professionals

Spanish media pointed out that neither the children of Sergio Ramos and Pilar Rubio nor the caregivers were even aware of the presence of the thieves whom they described as “professionals” and “perfectly organized” to act stealthy.

Theft worth more than 11,000 euros

According to sources from the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard, who have taken charge of the event, the thieves ransacked the house, taking luxury watches, jewelry, designer clothing, and cash that the couple had inside their home. All this for a value that could exceed 11,000 euros ($11,600 US, £9,500, according to the Spanish sports website El Desmarque.

Investigations remain open

At the moment, it is unknown who may have been the perpetrators of the robbery, but the investigation remains open by the police.

Another one?

It is not the first time that Sergio Ramos has suffered a robbery in his home like this. Something similar already happened to him in 2012, when he was a Real Madrid player and thieves tried to rob his house in the exclusive Conde Orgaz neighborhood, in Madrid.

No luck

On that occasion, the assailants were left empty-handed when they found that Sergio Ramos himself and his brother René were inside the house, which is why they ended up fleeing without any loot.

Another one bites the dust

Nor is he the first Sevilla FC footballer to suffer a robbery. In August 2020 (during the Covid-19 pandemic), thieves targeted Suso, Ramos's teammate.

Football players as targets

Other football players such as Joaquín and William Carvalho have suffered house robberies in the past four years. Ironically, their houses were hit during a Seville derby match in April 2019.

In Madrid too

The fame and fortune that surrounds footballers has meant that, for years, they have been in the crosshairs of thieves and, of course, Seville is not an isolated case. In Madrid, for example, in addition to Sergio Ramos, they have also targeted Karim Benzema, Casemiro, Isco, Lucas Vázquez, Solari, Varane, Zidane, Ancelotti, Thomas Partey and Álvaro Morata.

Barcelona aswell

Similarly, in Barcelona, the best-known case is without a doubt, is that of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was beaten after being threatened with firearms and iron bars in his villa in Casteldefells.

International issue

Outside of Spain, there are cases like those of Ashley Cole, who was tied up in front of her children by men dressed in camouflage and with balaclavas, in addition to other stars of the English Premier such as Sadio Mané or Riyad Mahrez; in France the PSG players Renato Sanches and Mauro Icardi; or in Italy Ángel Di María and Paulo Dybala, to give some examples.

It is difficult not to repeat them again

While it is highly unlikely thieves will target Sergio Ramos again in the foreseeable future, it goes to show there is an international target behind these world-class players, victims of a quick smash and grab.
