Sweet 16! Who are the youngest players to play in the Champions League?

The UEFA Champions League is the premier competition in club football, with the majority of players never being good enough to feature.

Despite that, some players have been thrust into the limelight of the competition, making their appearances in the Champions League at only 16 years old.

The latest to do it was FC Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal, who came on as a substitute in Barcelona's win over Royal Antwerp last week.

After Yamal's showing in the competition, here are the youngest players to feature in the UEFA Champions League!

On the 2^nd of October 2013, Youri Tielemans became the youngest Belgian to play in the Champions League, starting in a match against Olympiacos.

Tielemans dream European debut ended badly, losing 3-0 to the Greek side. However, since then, Tielemans has played for Monaco and Leicester, winning multiple trophies and finishing third at the World Cup with Belgium.

Hailed as the most exciting Croatian since Luka Modric, Alen Halilovic came on in the final few minutes of the Champions League match between Dinamo Zagreb and PSG after PSG were winning 2-0.

After his rapid rise to Champions League game time, Halilovic never established himself as a starter for a European giant like Modric, instead having a solid career playing for Sporting Gijon, Las Palmas, and Standard Liege.

After four goals in three UEFA Youth League games, Lyon's Rayan Cherki was promoted to the first team, making his Champions League debut in a 2-0 loss to Zenit after coming on as a second-half substitute.

Cherki was on the bench for Lyon in the Champions League nearly a month before his debut, meaning he could have been higher on the list if he played.

Nigerian left-back Celestine Babayaro became the youngest player in Champions League history in the 1994/95 season, playing for Anderlecht against Steaua in a 1-1 draw.

As well as becoming the youngest player to play in the competition, Babayaro also became the youngest player to be sent off, being given a straight red after 37 minutes.

Lamine Yamal's Champions League debut at 16 years and 68 days old is just another thing checked off his list, becoming Barcelona's youngest league starter and already scoring on his Spain senior debut against Georgia.

Dortmund's Youssoufa Moukoko is the youngest player to feature in a Champions League match, coming on as a substitute in a 2-1 win against Zenit, aged 16 years and 18 days.

Moukoko has scored 141 goals in 88 games for Dortmund's u17 and u19 sides, earning himself an appearance in the Bundesliga a day after his 16^th birthday and subsequently playing in the Champions League.
