Despite being born in Canada with British citizenship, Tatiana Flores is one of the great promises of Mexican women's football. Touted as the future of the women's 'Tri' attack line, she is one of the most popular players of the women's game today, both on and off the field.

Her siblings are also professional footballers.

The daughter of a Mexican father and a Canadian mother of English descent, her family lives and breathes football. Her brother, Marcelo Flores (pictured), is a winger for Tigres in the Mexican Liga MX league, and at the international level with Mexico. Her sister Silvana Flores is a midfielder for FC Monterrey of the Liga MX Femenil.

From England to Spain with her first professional contract

The biggest turning point in her career would happen in Spain. In February 2023, she left on loan to Real Oviedo in the Primera Federación – the second division of Spanish women's football – signing her first contract as a professional player.

One season for Oviedo in the first division

It took her a while to debut with the Spanish team due to her being a minor (she was 17 years old at the time), although she was able to play and make a name for herself in the latter parts of the 2022-2023 season.

In the Atlético de Madrid sights

At the end of that season, 'Tati' was linked with Atlético de Madrid, with its subsidiary more specifically, and even appeared in a social media image showing off the club's academy players.

Signing for Tigres

However, that did not come to fruition and in January 2024 she signed for Tigres UANL in the Liga MX Femenil at 19 years old. Fittingly, she would also wear the number 19 jersey – much like now-top players Lizbeth Ovalle or Jenni Hermoso – signifying the amount of work she would have to do to secure her place in the main team.

She was called up by England, but chose the 'Tri'

At the international level, she was first called up for England but ultimately decided to choose Mexico as her national team, going through its youth categories to the U-20 team.

Robert Dante Siboldi controversy

Her short time at Tigres, however, has also been surrounded by controversy, unfairly linking her to the departure of Tigres' coach Robert Dante Siboldi.

Rumoured relationship

His departure from the club was a surprise, as he had guided Tigres to a Liga MX Clausura title in 2023. It was rumored that it was due to a relationship he had with the Mexican forward.

"Fake news at my expense"

Flores spoke out against the rumors and published a statement on her social accounts denying their validity: "I have received thousands of comments attacking me on social networks, dozens of media outlets have made a controversy about fake news at the expense of without stopping to think about the damage they can cause," she wrote.

Criticism of the media

"To the 'serious' media outlets that decided to seek clicks and views at my expense and feed the violent, sexist and misogynistic narrative, without doing their job of verifying the information, you are also part of the problem..." the young football star added.

"Raise our voices"

"As women, the misogynistic and sexist social environment in which we live has forced us to develop a very thick skin, but today it is not enough to have the strength to resist, we must also have the strength to denounce and raise our voices against abuse and aggression, so that more women also raise their voices," she concluded.

Support from Liga MX Femenil

The Tigres forward received support through the networks of several players, in addition to the Liga MX Femenil, which published on its Instagram account: "Let's make the networks a safe space for everyone (…) Tatiana Flores reminds us that if there are no heroes to save us, we have to become heroines. We are with you!"

Support from other players

Two of the players from the Mexican championship came from Pachuca, with a word of support from Mónica Ocampo, who said "Tatiana, we are with you. Good luck!"; and Charlyn Corral, who added: "In the name of women's soccer and the Tuzas, I want to tell you that we are with you, good luck and keep going!"

More than 975,000 followers on her social networks

Unfortunately, this kind of controversy seems to follow stars once they reach a certain level of fame On Instagram alone, Flores has more than 975,000 followers.

A claim for advertising investment

The Mexican soccer player has greatly cultivated her profile as a content creator and brand ambassador on her social media accounts. According to the 11 Posts platform, she commands around $4,200 per sponsored post.
