Derby Day

Footballing rivals AC Milan and Inter Milan face off in what is the biggest 'Derby Della Madonnina' in recent years.

Champions League

The Milan rivals play each other in the Champions League Semi-Finals, with a match against Real Madrid or Manchester City at stake in the final.

Fourth meeting

Milan and Inter play out a fourth derby game of the season, with both teams recording a league victory each.

Getting to the semi's

AC saw off Italian rivals and newly crowned Serie A champions Napoli in the quarter-final, while Inter beat Portuguese outfit Benfica.

Fifth time in history

This will be the fifth time Milan and Inter have faced each other in European competition, with Milan unbeaten in the previous four meetings (two wins, two draws.)

Historic games

As the teams prepare to face each other in one of the most critical games in both clubs' history, let's look at the most historic games between AC and Inter Milan!

Milan 0-4 Inter, 2009/2010

Inter Milan unleashed their ruthless and relentless brilliance on AC Milan in August 2009, setting the tone for their historic treble-winning season under Jose Mourinho.

Setting the tone

Goals from Thiago Motta, Diego Milito, Maicon, and Dejan Stankovic set sail to Inter's campaign, as they went on to win the Serie A title, Coppa Italia, and the Champions League.

Inter 0-3 Milan, 2004/2005

The game that birthed one of the most iconic pictures in football, as Marco Materazzi and Rui Costa stared at the flares being thrown on the pitch, the 3-0 AC Milan victory truly captured the spectacle of the Milan derby.

Game didn't finish

After Andriy Shevchenko put Milan ahead and Esteban Cambiasso had a goal ruled out for Inter, all hell broke loose on the pitch, resulting in the game being stopped after 74 minutes and AC Milan being awarded a 3-0 victory.

Inter 0-6 Milan, 2000/2001

AC Milan's demolition of Inter in 2001 remains the largest margin of victory in the derbies history, with Milan winning 6-0.

Humiliating defeat

Braces from Gianni Comandini and Andriy Shevchenko, as well as goals from Federico Giunti and Serginho, wrapped up one of the most humiliating performances in Inter's history.

Milan 2-1 Inter, 1984/1985

AC Milan had hit rock bottom before facing Inter in the 1984/1985 season, having been relegated from Serie A in 1980 and 1982 and being on the wrong side of a match-fixing scandal.

Turning the tide

Inter hadn't lost a derby in five years leading up to the game, and when Inter went 1-0, it looked to be the same old story. However, after AC Milan equalised, Englishman Mark Hately headed Milan into the lead with a bullet header, changing the tide of the future meetings for good.

Inter 6-5 Milan, 1949/1950

The most enthralling encounter and the highest-scoring game in the Milan derby was when Inter Milan came out 6-5 victors in the 1949/1950 season.

The greatest comeback

Inter found themselves down and out at one point in the match, losing 4-1. However, a historic comeback saw Inter draw it 4-4 before going up 5-4. Milan did equalize to make it 5-5, but Amadeo Amadei sealed his hat trick at the end to win the game 6-5 for Inter.
