Sucker punch

'Bones' is the undisputed GOAT of the sport, and a UFC 300 card without him as the main event will be a real sucker punch to UFC president Dana White.

Why is he the GOAT?

With that said, Here are five reasons why Jon Jones is the GOAT of the UFC.

He's virtually undefeated

According to the UFC website, Jones has a UFC record of 27 wins, one loss, and one no-contest in his career. However, his loss was controversially ruled as a disqualification in his fourth UFC fight against Matt Hamill.

Close calls

In his 27 wins as a UFC fighter, not all fights have been plain sailing, narrowly taking decision wins against Thiago Santos and Dominick Reyes in his previous two bouts before matching up against Gane.

The longevity of his career

Jon Jones draws many similarities with NBA legend LeBron James. The two GOATs have both shared the longevity and consistency to stay at the highest level of their sports for an extended period.

15 years at the top

'Bones' Jones made his MMA debut in April 2008, recording a TKO win over Brad Bernard. His talent and longevity have led him 15 years down the line, winning another UFC title belt in 2023, as reported by ESPN.

Title defence records and UFC records

His title defense record and other UFC records in the light heavyweight division alone warrant his GOAT status in the sport.

Extraordinary records

Jones has the most title fight wins in the UFC (15), the most wins in the light heavyweight division (20), the joint most successful title defenses (11), and the longest unbeaten streak in the UFC (19), according to the Sherdog website.

Testing himself against the best

Throughout his long and successful 16-year career in the UFC, Jones has tested himself against the best fighters.

Tough fighters

Jones has fought the likes of Danial Cormier, Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua, Rashad Evans, Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson, and Lyoto Machida, all in title fights or defenses, as reported by UFC Stats.

The most well rounded fighter

Jones has proved to match up against any UFC fighter in the Octagon, facing elite-level strikers, wrestlers, and kickboxers. Despite that, you could argue Jones has them all.

He has it all

At 6ft4 with an 84.5" reach, Jon Jones has the most physically imposing body in the UFC. To add that, he has wrestled since he was 12, so Jones is dangerous on the floor or standing up, as reported by ESPN.
