Disappointments

The start of Euro 2024 is just a few days away and the participating countries are preparing to lead their country to the coveted trophy. However, we believe that these players will not deliver what is expected of them.

Manuel Neuer (Germany)

At 38, Germany's Manuel Neuer is coming off his worst season with Bayern Munich and a shocking mistake in the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid. The end of the season showed his age is starting to affect him, and he could let down Germany this summer.

Andy Robertson (Scotland)

Scotland captain Andy Robertson has had his worst season for goals and assists this season (3 goals, and 2 assists) since coming back from injury for Liverpool and hasn't looked like the same player. He is Scotland's best hope of qualifying from the group, but he hasn't shown he can reach his old level.

Dayot Upamecano (France)

France's Dayot Upamecano had a torrid end to the year at Bayern Munich, having been torched by Vinicius Jr in the Champions League semi-final. The French defender was taken off against Luxembourg because of thigh trouble, but France trusts him as their main defender.

Virgil van Dijk (Netherlands)

The Netherlands will rely on Virgil van Dijk's defensive ability to go far in the tournament. The Dutch defender was relied upon by Liverpool this season, but his form dipped at the business of the season, putting in poor performances to Everton and Crystal Palace as Liverpool dropped out of the title race.

Oleksandr Zinchenko (Ukraine)

Ukraine's Oleksandr Zinchenko was dropped by Mikel Arteta at Arsenal for a string of bad performances, and comes into the Euros with Ukraine reportedly unhappy at the club, according to Caught Offside. If Zinchenko is unhappy at Arsenal, he will struggle to perform for his country.

Luka Modric (Croatia)

Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric has aged like a fine wine, but as his playing time has decreased at Real Madrid, predominantly coming off the bench, it's hard for the 38-year-old to start and perform to the level he used to play for Croatia.

Frenkie de Jong (Netherlands)

Barcelona and Netherlands midfielder Frenkie de Jong will be one of the first names on the team sheet for his country at Euro 2024. However, due to multiple ankle injuries this season, De Jong will have trouble getting up to speed and keeping the Dutch team ticking like he usually does.

Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium)

With speculation of a move away from Manchester City and a terrible performance in the FA Cup final, where he was subbed off at halftime, Kevin De Bruyne's mind seems to be elsewhere from football in an aging Belgium squad with one chance left to win.

Alvaro Morata (Spain)

According to GiveMeSport, Álvaro Morata has never scored more than 15 goals in a season, and at 31, Morata may be past his best in Europe's elite tournament football. His best return for Spain at a major tournament is three goals. That's not enough for Spain to win the Euros.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)

Despite finishing as the Saudi Pro League top scorer in 2024, scoring 31 goals in 35 matches, Cristiano Ronaldo hasn't matched up against Europe's best players in nearly two years. At 38, can he reach the increased level expected of him for Portugal to perform at the Euros?

Aleksandar Mitrovic (Serbia)

Aleksandar Mitrovic will be heavily relied on if Serbia is to make it far in the European Championships, but after playing for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, Mitrovic will have to increase his level substantially to perform well in Germany, despite scoring 28 goals in 28 matches.
