“Exhausted”

Raducanu was beaten 6-2, 6-2 by Maria Lourdes Carle in Madrid, following which she told reporters, “I think from the performance today it was very clear that mentally and emotionally I was exhausted.”

“Push through”

The Canadian-born Brit continued, “I was trying to push through and I was just unable to push through today. I guess the sport is just pretty brutal.”

Injury-hit year

Raducanu’s quotes come after a tough 2023 in which she underwent operations on both wrists and her left ankle, per The Guardian.

Ranking drop

Per The WTA, Raducanu’s world ranking topped out at 10 in July 2022 but fell to 298 in late 2023 due to her injuries.

Regular practice

The BBC is reporting Raducanu has been practising at the National Tennis Centre in London as she prepares for the grass and hard court season.

Next steps
