Euro 2024

On the 15th of June 2024, the European Championships start in Germany, with England being one of the heavy favourites to win the competition for the very first time.

Finally have enough?

Sir Geoff Hurst, England's World Cup hattrick-winning scorer in 1966, believes the team and Gareth Southgate finally have enough to end 58 years of heartache.

"Gareth has been really terrific"

According to The Metro, Hurst said: "Our chances of winning the European Championship this summer are very good. The leadership under Gareth has been really terrific and to have reached the semi-finals of the World Cup and the final of the Euros is good going."

'Coming home'?

As Hurst said, England has come close in two of the last three tournaments, leading England fans to believe this year may be the year that it's finally 'coming home.'

Jude Bellingham

Sir Geoff Hurst believes Jude Bellingham could be the difference maker for England at the Euros this summer, with the Englishman leading Real Madrid in scoring with 20 goals in all competitions this season, according to Transfermarkt.

"Unbelievable talent"

Hurst told The Sun: "Jude Bellingham is an unbelievable talent – what he's done with his career so far is incredible. He's gone to Real Madrid, and it seems he can't stop scoring. That shows what a fantastic player he is."

“One of a great bunch of young players”

"But Jude is also one of a great bunch of young players, which is magnificent. He's still only 20 which is astonishing, and he is brilliant."

Young stars

Bellingham is just one of a great group of young players in the England squad, including Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden, Declan Rice, Cole Palmer, and Kobbie Mainoo.

Saka and Foden

According to Transfermarkt, Phil Foden is having his best season in a Manchester City shirt, scoring 18 goals and 10 assists in 42 games for the 'Citizens' while Bukayo Saka has been Arsenal's main offensive threat, providing 16 goals and 15 assists in 37 games.

Superstar striker

The key to any team being successful is having a player that can finish chances from players like Bellingham, Saka, and Foden, and England have that in Harry Kane.

Bayern Munich

At the time of the March international break, Harry Kane has scored 31 Bundesliga goals for Bayern Munich, breaking the goal-scoring record for a player in his debut season. With eight games left, he needs to score 11 goals to break Robert Lewandowski's goal record.

Firing the goals in

The England captain will be the first name on Gareth Southgate's team sheet in the summer and for good reason, averaging 1.21 goals per 90 minutes, according to Squawka.

Luck of the draw

England has the attacking prowess to defeat any team in world football, but sometimes it comes down to luck of the draw. Squawka has predicted England's most likely route if they are to win Euro 2024.

Fly through the early rounds

The 'Three Lions' face Serbia, Denmark, and Slovenia in the group stages and are expected to finish top of the group. If they do, they play the best-placed third-place team from Group D, E, or F. The teams are likely to be Austria, Romania or Czech Republic.

Beating Italy

After defeating one of the third-placed teams, England will face the runner-up of Group A or B, with the most likely team to be Italy, the team they lost to in the final of Euro 2020. If they reach the semi-final, they are likely to play France or Belgium for a spot in the final.

Will this be the year?

For England to end 58 years of heartache, Squawka predicts the Three Lions will have to beat Germany or Spain in the final. Will this year be the year they finally win it?
