Who will follow in Italy's footsteps?

Euro 2024 is fast approaching. England, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany and reigning champions Italy will battle it out for the title, but the competition is more indecisive than ever. However, two nations are emerging as firm favourites.

France vs England

Two teams stand out this year: the England of Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane, and the France of Kylian Mbappé and Antoine Griezmann. Both teams have exceptional players, but France have ten reasons to believe they can win.

10. A record to equal

With two victories at the Euros (1984 and 2000), France are just one away from the record for most wins in the competition, held jointly by Spain and Germany. To show that Les Bleus are the bosses of Europe, they need to win a third Euro.

9. Great nations with doubts

Hosts Germany are struggling, England have not won any of their last three games, Spain lost to Colombia and Portugal lost their first game in 12. France may not have impressed during the last international break, but they are not alone, and none of the favourites arrive in perfect form. After all, pre-tournament friendlies don't mean much.

8. A team out for revenge

Eliminated by Switzerland in the quarter-finals of the last Euros, beaten in the World Cup final by Argentina... The French are still reeling from two major disappointments in international competitions, which is why, at Euro 2024, they will be keen to erase those bitter memories.

7. A complicated group... and that's just perfect!

With Austria, Poland and the Netherlands, Les Bleus are thrown into the deep end. There will be no easy matches in the group phase, and that's the best way to prepare for winning this European Championship. To win, you have to beat the best.

6. An iron defence

Mike Maignan, Ibrahima Konaté, William Saliba, Dayot Upamecano, the Hernandez brothers, Jules Koundé, Benjamin Pavard... France's defence is one of the best in the world, yet it is all too often overlooked. In 2018, Didier Deschamps' defence led the French to victory, so why shouldn't the same strategy work in 2024?

5. Didier Deschamps, the one and only

Until now, one of Les Bleus' strengths has been overlooked: their coach. Since taking over, Didier Deschamps has always shown himself to be the right man for the job. His tactical flexibility during the last World Cup final (with the substitutions of Kolo Muani and Thuram) showed that 'DD' is one of the best coaches in world football.

4. In-form players

Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappé, Mike Maignan, Eduardo Camavinga, Adrien Rabiot, Olivier Giroud, Warren Zaïre-Emery... Most of France's players arrive at the Euros in top form and, what's more, without major injury. Les Bleus are at full strength, and that's excellent news for their fans.

3. Kylian Mbappé in his prime

Kylian Mbappé is perhaps the best player in the world right now. The French star has been absolutely stunning this season, and his winning mentality has not changed. Beaten at the last World Cup, the France captain is determined to give Les Bleus a third Euro.

2. A monstrous squad

Whether in defence, midfield or attack, the French team is exceptional. Along with England (Kane, Bellingham, Saka, Foden, etc.), France have the best squad in the tournament and can easily field two teams.

1. Experience in big moments

However, the most important reason why France may win it, is that Les Bleus have the experience of the very highest level. With three finals out of their last four international tournaments, Deschamps' players are no strangers to major tournaments. Do you think France will win Euro 2024?
