Jordan Pickford: England's greatest-ever goalkeeper at major tournaments

Jordan Pickford has long been England's number one goalkeeper, leading the Three Lions to their second consecutive Euros final.

Before Euro 2024, Pickford had reached one semifinal, one quarterfinal, and the Euro 2020 final, being England's number one in all three of those tournaments.

After being a regular starter and one of the first names on the team sheet in England's most successful spell in history, Pickford has put himself in the conversation for England's greatest-ever goalkeeper.

During this run to the semifinals at Euro 2024, Pickford has broken numerous England goalkeeping records and is on the verge of eclipsing Iker Casillas' European Championship record.

In 12 Euro games before playing the Netherlands, Pickford had a save percentage of 85%, while Casillas had an 87% save percentage in 14 games. Pickford's record is already better than Gianluigi Buffon and Edwin Van der Sar.

For England, in the game against Denmark, Pickford overtook Peter Shilton as England's most-capped goalkeeper in major tournaments (21). He has since stretched that to 25 after the game against the Netherlands

Sportstar reports that in England's 0-0 draw against Slovenia, the Everton goalkeeper broke the record for the most clean sheets kept by an England goalkeeper at major tournaments, registering 11 in 22 appearances, beating Shilton again.

Before the 2018 World Cup, England had a torrid time at penalty shootouts, losing seven of their eight shootouts since their first at the 1990 World Cup semi-final.

The England keeper has saved a penalty in all of his shootouts, helping the 'Three Lions' turn their fortune around. With Pickford in goal, England have won three out of four penalty shootouts.

In total, Pickford has saved five of 20 shootout penalties he has faced. That's more than double all other England keepers managed between them from 1990 to 2012.
