How quickly can you eat a burrito?

Most basketball all-stars are known for their speed on the court but there is one NBA player that’s made a name for himself because of how quickly he can down a burrito.

The invisible

Former Boston Celtic Kelly Olynyk became the talk of the sports world in mid-December when the story of his invisible burrito was told on the First to the Floor podcast.

Gobbled down in just three bites

In conversation with the First to the Floor's hosts about which player would best fit into the Celtic's current lineup, guest and sports journalist Abby Chin told the story of the time she watched Olynyk eat a burrito in just three bites.

Kelly loves the good stuff

Kelly loves burritos and sushi,” Chin said, “those are like his favorite foods."

Dared to eat a burrito fast

“And, so, he was like once, a teammate dared him: how many bites do you think it’ll take you to eat that burrito?” Chin continued.

Kelly thought three bites would do

Apparently, Olynyk thought very highly of his burrito-eating skills and answered that he could polish it off in just three bites.

"Absolutely not"

“They were like no way, absolutely not, no freaking way,” Chin said sarcastically as she continued to tell the saga of Olynyk’s inflight burrito.

Three humongous bites

But Kelly’s teammates were wrong. With money on the table, “Kelly freaking did it in three humongous bites,” Chin exclaimed, adding that “it was disgusting."

Other reasons why Olynyk would make a good addition to the Celtics

Chin went on to say that Kelly was funny, had a good spirit, and was an obvious team player which is why she believed he would make a good addition to the Celtics locker room.

A strong choice for the Celtics if they could get him

Before diving into her story, Chin also said that she thought that Kelly’s size and his ability to play the space game were two major factors in why she wanted to see him added back to the Celtics roster.

Olynyk would work well with Boston's current play style

Chin also added that Kelly is a “super smart, high basketball IQ” player that could work well in Boston’s high-switching defense.

Drafted in 2013

Kelly Olynyk was first drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in 2013 as the 13th overall draft pick before being immediately traded to the Boston Celtics where he spent the four seasons of his professional career.

A top rookie

During his time with Boston, Olynyk became one of the best rookies of the 2013-2014 NBA season according to NBC’s Ryan Kostecka.

An ideal player in today's NBA

He emerged as an ideal player in today's NBA, averaging 8.7 points and 5.2 rebounds in just 20 minutes per game while shooting 35.1% from beyond the arc,” Kostecka wrote in a 2022 article.

All-Rookie Second Team

“That led to him being named to the All-Rookie Second Team and suiting up in the 2014 Rising Stars Game,” the NBC sports journalist added.

But who is Abby Chin?

If you’re wondering how Abby Chin knew about Olynyk’s burrito-eating skills, it’s because she is the current Celtics sideline reporter for NBC Sports Boston, which has given her a lot of access to the team’s behind-the-scenes antics.
