Alexia Putellas: The queen of football returns to the pitch
Alexia Putellas, the queen of football, is back after a harsh injury that kept her off the pitch for seven months.
The Ballon d'Or prodigy is back at Camp Nou and will be available for the remaining Champions League season!
The last time we saw Alexia on a pitch was during the 'Copa de la Reina' (Queens Cup), where she led her team, FC Barcelona Femeni, to an overwhelming 6-1 victory over Sporting de Huelva.
A month later, Alexia busted her ACL during a training session with the National team, just weeks before the 2022 UEFA Womens Euro Cup.
She has missed 3,810 minutes of playing time this season, for both FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team.
The 29-year-old Spanish midfielder experienced the hardships of long-lasting injuries however, this only fortified her fighting spirit!
"Since I can remember, I have never gone more than five days without touching a ball, training, or competing. It was and still is my passion, this process (the injury) will be very challenging," shared Alexia during a press conference.
Prior to her injury, Alexia registered some great numbers during her 2021-2022 season, with a total of 34 goals in 42 games.
The Barcelona captain is currently valued at $570,000.
The stage is set for the Barcelona captain's return! FC Barcelona Femeni qualified for another UEFA Womens Champions League, making it their second final in three-five years.
There was speculation about Alexia being a potential starter during the semifinal matchup versus Chelsea Women FC, yet Jonatan Giraldez benched the captain from start to finish.
The game ended in a 1-1 draw, sending Barcelona to Eindhoven for the season's final match on June 3rd!
Alexia Putellas was crowned European champion in the 2020-2021 pandemic season, with a whopping 4-0 victory over Chelsea.
FC Barcelona Femini knocked out PSG and Manchester City on their way to the final, proving to be the strongest team that year.
Alexia also achieved football's highest honor twice, after winning the Ballon d'Or in 2021 and 2022. She has become a football icon and a source of inspiration for many young female football players.
With a month to prepare and regain strength, the Barcelona captain has her eyes set on June 3rd. If all goes according to plan, she will return to European football with a bang!
