"Standards have not been good enough here"

Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard, has slammed Chelsea owner Todd Boehly and the current administration for the overall club's struggles on and off the pitch. According to Sky Sports, Lampard believed 'standards have not been good enough here'. Since Boehly assumed ownership, the Blues have struggled to regain their former reputation.

Who is to blame?

Furthermore, the former Chelsea legend believes it's going to be a challenge moving forward, "so I think you should be careful to point fingers at the manager himself or the young players..." Nevertheless, Pochettino's continuity is not for certain.

Pochettino out

Pochettino's time is up at Stamford Bridge, and the 'Blues' are already looking for a replacement. According to The Guardian, Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi and Sporting's Ruben Amorim are high on the club's wish list for the next term. After a disastrous season for Chelsea, the club is on the verge of total chaos!

Under pressure

Boehly’s Chelsea has been under pressure, as the ‘Blues’ are unlikely to qualify for European competitions for another season. After spending over £430 million  ($543m, €500m) during the summer transfer window, fans were expecting a full 360 change. It looks like another trophyless season for Chelsea, after their recent defeat against Liverpool in the EFL final.

Struggling to play quality football

Liverpool made sure to cancel Chelsea out, yet another season, leaving them trophyless yet again. Pochettino's men are struggling to find any type of consistency on the pitch, and the 'Blues' are struggling to play quality football.

Champions League memories

At the start of the season, Pochettino's men were eager to amend their previous season, but it looks like the 'Blues' are plodding another dreadful season finish. The last European match Chelsea played was in April 2023, during the Champions League quarterfinal against Real Madrid.

Unable to regain momentum

Chelsea hasn't been able to find stability ever since Roman Abramovich left the club. Ever since Boehly purchased the club back in 2022, the club has failed to regain its European status. Boehly revolutionized the club's structure and sacked important individuals such as Marina Granovskaia (ex-Club Director and Chief Assistant) during Abramovich’s era.

Baamboozled

According to The Sun, Boehly has centralized the club's management under his rule. Nevertheless, his lack of experience in the world of football and his rash economic decisions have taken Chelsea into the red.

In search of a new solution

According to Goal, the American businessman has opted to fix the club's ongoing problems by dumping astronomical figures into record-signing transfer deals, with hopes of retaining talent in the long run.

Transfer market splash

Chelsea shook up the transfer market with a splash. According to The Chelsea Chronicle, the club spent over £430m during the 2023/24 transfer windows. Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Axel Disasi, Robert Sanchez, Djorde Petrovic, Lesley Ugochukwu, Angelo Gabriel, Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, and Christopher Nkunku, to name a few.

Questionable deals

The spending splash has done little to help Pochettino's team. Moises Caicedo, their biggest transfer in the 2024 season, has yet to impress at Stamford Bridge.

Bad results

Chelsea has struggled to maintain their rhythm throughout the season and choked big games, leaving them far away from a European finish. After their 2-2 away draw against Brentford in March, the club is looking to sack Pochettino ahead of the 2024-2025 season.

Lacking experience on the pitch

With Boehly's radical gamble on youthful talent, many are beginning to question the team's lack of experience on the pitch. They are ranked as one of the most carded teams in the league! "When you are frustrated and lack a bit of experience, it's something we can improve. It's not about a lack of discipline, it's about having the ability to read the situation of the game," he said during a press conference, covered by BBC Sport.

Young squad

According to Opta Analyst, Chelsea is the third-youngest team in the Premier League. Pochettino's men have an average age of 24 in the starting eleven.

Limited options

The club is now estimated to carry an estimated £870m ($1.1bn) debt and face the possibility of further financial setbacks following their mid-table finish. Todd Boehly's options are limited after recent transfer splashes, so the revolution needs to come from within – on the football pitch.

FA Cup

There is still hope for silverware this season, as the 'Blues' are still alive in the FA Cup. With or without Pochettino, the team must find a way out. Let us know what you think!
