Life changing accident

The one and only Michael Schumacher is arguably one of the most talented drivers Formula 1 has ever seen. His competitiveness and on-track skill made him ruthless on the tarmac, leading to great success, until a tragic accident changed his life forever.

Skiing in Meribel

Schumacher was skiing on the slopes in Meribel in the French Alps with his son, Mick, when the accident occurred on 29 December 2013. Despite wearing a helmet, he sustained a lethal brain injury and was placed in a medically induced coma.

Medical home

Schumacher's family limits updates about Michael's condition, preventing the spread of rumors that occasionally arise. The seven world title champion is most likely bedridden in a medically adapted home.

A hard reality

According to Philippe Streiff (pictured), a former F1 driver, Schumacher is paralyzed and is in a wheelchair. "He is getting better but everything is relative. It's very difficult. He can't speak. Like me, he is in a wheelchair, paralyzed. He has memory problems and speech problems," Streiff, who passed away in December 2022, told The Independent in 2014.

His privacy

Schumacher's wife, Corinna, keeps strict control over his access—a few to no visits at all to keep his condition secret.

Daughter's wedding

According to the Daily Record, reports claimed that Schumacher had attended his daughter Gina-Maria's wedding back in September 2023. A 'no phone' policy was placed allegedly for all attendees, however, close friend Johnny Herbert dismissed the rumors regarding Michaels's attendance overall.

Not true

"It will always be a closed shop. The most recent rumor was he attended his daughter's wedding. Unfortunately, from what I understand that was all A1 fake news and no truth in it," Herbert told Flashscore.

Medical opinion

Furthermore, neurosurgeon Jussi Posti has strong doubts on Schumacher's ability to attend public events. Reports suggest his medical condition is too fragile for such 'activities'.

Family resilience

Corinna Schumacher has been countessly praised for her unwavering dedication to her bedridden husband. "She has kept the family strong despite the unexpected tragedy," shared Jean Todt.

Netflix documentary

The Netflix documentary Schumacher, released in 2021, highlighted their struggle and strength as a family.

Family unity

Mick and Gina regularly honor their father's legacy on social media with heartwarming messages. Both often share childhood photos and memorabilia to keep their father's legacy alive.
