Former Tottenham winger Terry Medwin dies aged 91: a look back at his career

British football is in mourning following the death of former Welsh international Terry Medwin at the age of 91, per The Guardian.

Medwin was born in Swansea, where he began his professional career with local club Swansea Town. The winger made 147 league appearances for the club and scored 57 goals, according to The Guardian.

In 1956, Medwin moved to Tottenham, where he would earn 215 appearances in all competitions (72 goals), per the Tottenham Hotspur official website.

Medwin's spell with Spurs was a very successful one, as he won the double in the 1960/61 season.

In 1962, Medwin won another FA Cup with Spurs, scoring in the semi-final against Manchester United and beating Burnley in the final.

Medwin's career came to an unfortunate end "after breaking his leg in a tour match in South Africa in May, 1963. He fought on for two years before retiring in 1965," per the Tottenham Hotspur website.

Medwin was also a respected member of the Welsh national team, for which he scored at the 1958 FIFA World Cup.

In total, Medwin won 30 caps for his country, scoring 6 goals.

After his playing career, he moved into coaching, working for Cardiff City, Fulham and Norwich City, before taking up an assistant manager's role at Swansea, per The Guardian.
