'I'm ready to battle': Lando Norris fires warning shots at Max Verstappen

Despite being 76 points behind Max Verstappen in the Formula One Drivers' Championship, Lando Norris insists he will put up a fight against the reigning champion for the rest of the season.

Norris was denied a vital victory by his team at the Hungarian Grand Prix, as the British driver was expected to give his place back to teammate Oscar Piastri, who won his first-ever race.

Norris lost seven points to Verstappen after giving up his position in leading the race, but he insists he will take Verstappen to the wire in the final 11 races of the 2024 season.

According to The Guardian, Norris said: "It's still on. I know it's a big stretch. But I'm not going to say no to the challenge, and definitely, as a team, we won't."

"Psychologically I'm happy, I'm excited. I'm ready to battle and looking forward to the battles that we're going to have."

According to the F1 website, the British driver won the first Formula One race of his career at the Miami GP in May, and his McLaren team has continued to get stronger, finishing 1st and 2nd in Hungary.

Max Verstappen and his Red Bull team have gone three races without a victory, giving Norris the confidence his team can go against the naysayers and score an unlikely championship victory.

Speaking after the race in Hungary, Norris said: "A lot of people are going to say that there's no chance, but we're going to keep fighting, and I'm going to give myself the best opportunity to do so."

He added: "Especially when you see Max today and Red Bull, not performing so well, making mistakes, crashing."

The pair will battle it out at the Belgium Grand Prix on the 28th of July in the final race before the annual summer break. Can Norris beat the formidable Verstappen and win the world title?
