NFL Power Rankings: The 15 greatest teams to win the Super Bowl
Winning the Super Bowl is the highest achievement in football and, for many, all professional sports. Like everything, not all Super Bowl winners are created equal, with some teams deserving of recognition as standing above the rest. Let's take a look at who we think are the greatest teams to ever win the Super Bowl. All stats are sourced from ESPN.
The 2019 Chiefs kickedstarted a dynasty that we may have only just scratched the surface of. Patrick Mahomes was playing football from the gods, and Travis Kelce had one of the best years ever for a tight end. Super Bowl LIV was close until the fourth quarter, when KC pulled away to win comfortably.
The champions of Super Bowl 1 deserve recognition on this list, even if it's almost impossible to compare 1960s football to the modern game. Vince Lombardi may be the best to ever do it, and his team backed him up, beating the Steelers 35-10 in the championship game.

Some may say we are underrating the 1999 Rams here, given their nickname as, 'The Greatest Show on Turf'. Strangely, despite their dominance in 1999, they only finished fifth in offensive DVOA on the year, and only won the Super Bowl by a yard over the Titans. A great team, yes, but maybe not as good as we all remember.
The 2002 Bucs had, “the best pass defense DVOA ever put up in a full nonstrike season, and the third-best total defense in DVOA history behind the 1991 Eagles and 1986 Bears,” per Aaron Schatz. This was a team that could have scored on first down every series and still would have had a chance to win it all.
In the final year of what was known as the 'Steel Curtain Dynasty,' the '79 Steelers relied less on their defense and more on Terry Bradshaw and the offense than in previous years. After mostly dominating the regular season, Pittsburgh won every playoff game, including the Super Bowl, by at least two scores. Dominant.
'The Legion of Boom' wreaked on the NFL in 2013, finishing first in DVOA on the year, and leaving opponents licking their wounds. The offense was clicking, too, with Russell Wilson playing some of the best football of his career. Their 43-8 victory over the Broncos has the highest DVOA score in any Super Bowl ever.
The last time Dallas hosted the Lombardi Trophy aloft, they were one of the greatest teams the NFL had ever seen. The offense, comprised of, Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin, and one of the best OLs ever, was nearly unstoppable en route to their third Super Bowl in four years.
The '98 Broncos eschewed the old adage, “defense wins Super Bowls” as they slowed on the John Elway-led offense to win it all. Ranked just 19th in the league on defense, the offense clicked all year, finishing the year top of the DVOA rankings.
Another of the Steel Curtain's Super Bowl wins makes our list due to the utter dominance of the team all season, and who they beat in the Super Bowl. Against a great Dallas team led by Roger Staubach, the Steelers held the Cowboys to just 17 points, picking Staubach to secure the win with just seconds remaining.

The Niners were in the middle of a dynasty in the late 80s, with this vintage our chosen one as their greatest team of all. They scored 55 points in the Super Bowl, 55! This team was a juggernaut and is deserving of their flowers.
ESPN tried to make a case that the 1973 version of the Dolphins was better than the undefeated 1972 version. We disagree, as the '72 Dolphins remain the only team to go through a whole season undefeated. ESPN points out they took advantage of an easy schedule to go unbeaten, but we're not sure what they would have liked them to do about that…
We couldn't not include a Patriots team, and the 2004 vintage ranks highest in DVOA among all six championship-winning teams. Bizarrely, their two best seasons were when they lost to Eli Manning in the Super Bowl. The Pats held off a great Eagles team 24-21 in the Super Bowl in one of the best season of all time.
The Packers started 1996 3-0 with a combined score of 115-26 before dipping slightly in mid-season. The most significant reason behind their high ranking is how dominant they were in the playoffs, beating the 49ers 35-14, the Panthers 30-13, before seeing off the Patriots 35-21 in the Super Bowl.
Per DVOA, this is the greatest team to have played a season in the NFL, finishing second on offense, third in defense, and first in special teams. They demolished the Lions in the NFC Championship game 41-10 and were leading by 27 against the Bills in Super Bowl XXVI, before Buffalo scored a couple of times late to bring some respectability to the scoreline.
The '85 Bears are synonymous with greatness in the NFL, especially their defense, which is held up as the gold standard all should aspire to. Their playoff run shows why, as the Bears allowed just 10 points in three playoff games including the Super Bowl, all of them coming in the big game. Not to worry, though, as Chicago scored 46 of their own en route to hoisting the Lombardi.
