Must watch sport

Summer is always packed with amazing sporting events with incredible sport, with the winter sports coming to their conclusions and cricket, tennis and golf coming to the fore. Here is a list of some of the biggest and most exciting sporting events over the next few months.

March Madness, March 19th - April 8th

The 64 best teams in College Basketball will descend on Charlotte, North Carolina for the NCAA Finals, known as March Madness. With upsets aplenty and future NBA stars on display, be sure to keep this one in your calendars.

The Masters, 8th-14th April

Arguably the greatest tournament in golf, with a loaded field once again looking to win the coveted Green Jacket. Will Rory finally complete his career Grand Slam, or will a new champion emerge with so many stars now plying their trade on the LIV Tour?

Kentucky Derby, 4th May

One of the truly iconic horse races in the world, held in Louisville, Kentucky, the Derby rarely disappoints when it comes to spectacle. There’s still just enough time to grab yourselves a three-piece suit or a cocktail dress and hat to be appropriately attired whilst watching, presumably with a mint julep in hand.

US PGA Championship, 16th-19th May

One of golf’s four majors, the US PGA Championship will be played at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, what a couple of weeks for Louisville. A historic golf course that should hopefully provide an exciting field with a chance to win one of the greatest prizes in golf.

Monaco Grand Prix, 26th May

From a pure racing point of view, the Monaco Grand Prix is usually unspectacular, the narrow street circuit providing few overtaking opportunities. But as a spectacle, this is one of the best events on the calendar, with views over the Monte Carlo Marina a big part of the coverage, it’s a great chance to pick out your next mega-yacht…

Indianapolis 500, 26th May

Part of motor racing’s Triple Crown alongside the Monaco Grand Prix and the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race, the Indy 500 is possibly the biggest day in American motorsport with a potential crowd of 250,000 expected at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Final day of the Premier League, 19th May

With a three-horse race for the title in full swing and nearly half the teams still unsure of their survival in the Premier League, this year’s run is set to be nerve-wracking to the very last whistle. Not one you want to miss out on.

French Open 28th May-11th June

The only Grand Slam tournament played on clay, the French Open is a unique chance for otherwise unheralded players to make a name for themselves, especially this year with clay court God, Rafa Nadal unsure of his fitness.

UEFA Champions League Final, 1st June

The biggest annual event in European football, the Champions League final is set to take place at Wembley Stadium in London. Will Man City go back-to-back, or will a new champion emerge?

Men's T20 World Cup, June 4th-30th

The first ICC Tournament to be held, at least partially on US soil, the 2024 T20 World Cup is set to showcase the most energetic format of cricket to a new audience. With ticket sales through the roof, this competition could be electric.

NBA Finals, June

With plenty of time remaining in the NBA season, there is still ample opportunity for teams to make a playoff run, or perhaps they drop off and all out of contention all together.

Stanley Cup finals, June

The conclusion of the NHL season is always a big event, attracting many fans who haven’t necessarily followed the ups and downs of the season. Could the Leafs finally make it their year? Are the Panthers really that dominant or is the Vegas who will make a late run to retain the Stanley Cup.

US Open Championship, 13th-15th June

The 124th edition of the US Open is being held at the historic Pinehurst Resort, North Carolina and almost always provides serious entertainment.

Euro 2024, June 14th-July 14th

Euro 2024 should be a blockbuster of a tournament, with England looking to get revenge for a heartbreaking loss in the final last time out. Can Italy retain their trophy, or will France prove once again why they are the most dominant team in Europe in recent times?

Tour de France, June 29th-July21st

One of the most viewed annual sporting events in the world, the eyes of the cycling world will be watching closely as competitors from all over the world battle it out for the most prestigious prize in cycling.

Wimbledon Championships, July 1st-14th

The tennis world will once again descend on SW19, with the prestigious Wimbledon championship being contested over two weeks in early July. With Pimms flowing and strawberries and cream a plenty, spectators should be given a great spectacle once more. Can Djokovic retain his crown, or is there a new challenger out there?

British Grand Prix, 7th July

Held at the iconic Silverstone Circuit, the British Grand Prix is one of the premier stops on the Formula 1 circuit. With drivers hurtling round the iconic Copse Corner at ludicrous speed, this is the oldest race on the calendar and one most drivers are desperate to win.

The Open, 18th-21st July

Probably the most iconic prize in gold, the 152nd edition of The Open will be held at the Royal Troon Golf Club course, a tricky links course perched on the side of the ocean. Golfers will be battling wind and a tricky course design to see who comes out on top.

2024 Olympics, July 26th-August 11th

The Games of the XXXIII Olympiad are being held in Paris, with well over 10,000 of the world's best athletes competing to take home one of the biggest prizes in sports, an Olympic gold medal.

US Open, 26th August-8th September

The final Grand Slam tournament of the year, the US Open is always a fantastic way to bookend the tennis season. With over 23,000 spectators watching inside the Arthur Ashe stadium in New York, this is not one to miss.

Solheim Cup

The Solheim Cup pits the best women's golfers from Europe against the best from the USA following a similar format to the men's Ryder Cup, this tournament only comes around every two years, making every shot pressured-filled.

AFL Grand Final, 28th September

Perhaps the only sporting event in the world which is prefaced by a public holiday, the AFL Grand Final brings Melbourne’s five million inhabitants to a stop. With crowds inside the Melbourne Cricket Ground reaching over 100,000 and a chance for one team to win the ultimate prize in Aussie rules, this is a must watch.
