Another Olympics is over, but what an Olympics it has been.

An important Games

When Paris was awarded the Games in 2017, no one knew how important these Games would be for everyone across the world, with political divisiveness and the COVID-19 Pandemic changing the world drastically.

Delivering a spectacle

All the pressure was on Paris to deliver a spectacle and an event that brought people together, and they did it, setting a standard that's going to be near impossible to replicate.

Country coming together

Only a few weeks after major political diversity in France that could have fractured the country's ideals of equality and fraternity, all political talk was silenced and instead replaced with chants of 'Allez' for their athletes.

Talking about sports

For a change, people had more stuff in common to talk about, with the brilliance of Leon Marchand, Simone Biles, and LeBron James being the talk of everyone's lips rather than picking political sides.

Sporting memories

On the topic of the athletes, the Paris Games hosted some of the greatest sporting events and memories in Olympic history, with Biles winning three gold medals, Marchand winning four in his home Games, and Nafi Thiam winning a third straight heptathlon gold.

Magnificent backdrop

All these incredible sporting achievements were married into the magnificent backdrop of the Paris skyline, with an emphasis on showcasing Paris and its incredible landmarks to the world.

The Louvre in the background

All these unbelievable athletic feats were completed with the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Grand Palais, and the Louvre in the background.

Perfect combination

Whether it was the iconic beach volleyball arena standing front and center to the Eiffel Tower or marathon routes passing through all the prestigious landmarks, the Paris Olympics perfectly intertwined the incredible city with incredible sporting prowess.

"France is beautiful"

According to USA Today, the French World Cup winner and manager of the French football Olympic team, Thierry Henry, said: "France is beautiful. And when we're all together and when we unite, it's a wonderful sight."

Bringing sports to the people

One of the aims of the Games was to make the sporting venues accessible for everyone and to bring sports to the people.

Accessible

The Paris organisers put the majority of the sports in the centre of the city, directly next to the dependable train stations. If you wanted to watch multiple events in the day, you could, and if you didn't have a ticket, there was a good chance a street race of some sort was on.

"Emotions of our city"

Tony Estanguet, President of Paris 2024, said: "Since the beginning, we had one vision with Paris 2024: to organize sports in the city and really combine the emotion of sport with the emotions of our city, our landmarks, and iconic venues."

Well prepared security

Thanks to the intricate planning and well-prepared security, terrorism was thankfully not anywhere to be seen at the Games, and fans felt comfortable walking around freely, creating a relaxed and happy atmosphere.

"Sign me up!"

Estanguet added: "If someone had told me ten years ago, five years ago, one year ago, or even on the eve of the opening ceremony that things would go this way, I would have completely said, 'Sign me up.'"

Can they be topped?

The Paris Olympics merged the incredible aspects of the city with the unbelievable athletic prowess of the athletes. Will the 2024 Games ever be topped?
