You CANNOT be serious! John McEnroe calls Carlos Alcaraz, “better than Federer, Nadal and Djokovic”
John McEnroe is regarded by many as one of the best tennis players of all time, now he works in broadcasting and commentary at some of the biggest events in the sport, so when he praises someone it carries a certain amount of weight.
Following Alcaraz’s French Open victory over Alexander Zverev, McEnroe was effusive in his praise of the Spaniard, calling him, “the most skilled young man I’ve ever seen at this age,” per Eurosport.
McEnroe also called Alcaraz, “better than Federer, Nadal and Djokovic at 21,” in a remarkable claim.

McEnroe’s comments on Eurosport continued, with the seven-time Grand Slam winner wondering, “It’s hard to believe he can keep improving as he is already so good at everything.” Quite the problem to have for Alcaraz.
Mats Wilander, another seven-time winner, joined McEnroe in his praise of Alcaraz, calling him a “breath of fresh air,” and that, “We need Carlos Alcaraz more than anything in our sport at the moment”.
The former British number one Tim Henman also commented on Alcaraz, claiming, “I think he can win nine or ten Slams. There will be new players that come up but his skillset, his game is so complete, his athletic ability is incredible,” given he has three aged 21, nine or ten seems a low estimate!
Alcaraz is now the joint favourite to win the Wimbledon title this year, per Oddschecker. Given his form so far this season, and that he’s the reigning champion, it is hard to see past the Spaniard, despite some incredible players in the draw.
Whilst the newly crowned French Open winner’s talent is obvious to all, it may come as a surprise that he is only the third player in men’s tennis history to reach multiple Grand Slam finals before turning 21, joining Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, per Diario AS.
With John McEnroe singing his praises and three Grand Slams in his trophy cabinet already, there is no doubt Alcaraz is set to be the biggest draw in the sport for some time, but will he be able to beat Novak Djokovic’s 24 Grand Slam titles?
Do you think McEnroe’s comments are correct that Alcaraz is better than the “Big 3” at 21? It’s hard to compare eras, but we would love to know your thoughts!
