Two favourites

Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev are two of the leading favourites to win Wimbledon, but how they play the game has been questioned by a former champion in London.

Boring to watch

Former Wimbledon doubles champion Frederick Nielsen has named the pair the most boring players to watch, despite Sinner ranking number one in the world and Zverev number four, according to the ATP Rankings.

Sinner through

Italy's Sinner is through to the third round of the tournament after beating his Italian compatriot Matteo Berrettini in four sets, while Zverev takes on Marcus Giron in the second round.

Exceptional Sinner

Sinner has been exceptional this year on Tour, winning his first Grand Slam at the Australian Open, securing three ATP titles, and only losing three games in 2024.

Solid year

Reigning Olympic Champion Zverev has also had a good year, reaching the French Open final and recently winning the ATP Rome Masters before Roland Garros.

"Boring for me"

Despite the pair's success in 2024, Nielsen, who won the 2012 Wimbledon doubles championship, admitted the two are the "most boring for me" to watch, and even included American Taylor Fritz in the category as well.

"It's not watchable"

According to Tennis 365, Nielsen said: "Among active players, I would probably point to Taylor Fritz, Alexander Zverev, and Jannik Sinner. Zverev doesn't seem like he enjoys being there. I respect that he plays efficiently, but it's not watchable."

"Almost too good a guy"

"Honestly, I also find Jannik Sinner a bit boring to watch because everything is so monotonous. He's almost too good a guy."

Nielsen

Nielsen has some harsh criticism for a Tour pro who only played in one round of a Grand Slam, having only made the opening round of the Australian Open and failing to qualify for the other three majors.

Can they win it?

Can Zverev or Sinner put the harsh review of their game aside and win the 2024 Wimbledon championship?
