Eredivisie match suspended after Bas Dost collapses during game
Dost, 34, collapsed during extra time as his NEC Nijmegen team played AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch top division.
Dost collapsed during the closing moments of the game. He lost consciousness on the pitch and the game was abandoned so he could receive medical attention.
Players from both sides formed a ring around Dost as he received treatment. He regained consciousness on the pitch.
Players could be seen looking shocked and shaken on the pitch as Dost was given medical treatment.
Dost was carried from the pitch on a stretcher whilst the crowd stood and applauded him.
NEC Nijmegen posted a picture of Dost wearing a hospital robe with his thumb up, the picture was captioned, “I’m doing well”.

NEC Nijmegen’s Instagram post continued, saying, “The help I received on the field was fantastic. I'm in the hospital now and I feel good. Thanks for all the support”.
Dost had been playing well during the game, scoring his team’s opening goal before assisting the second as NEC Nijmegen led 2-1 in the closing stages.
So far there has been no reason given for Dost’s collapse.
