Securing silverware

A club’s legacy and standing are often shaped by its achievements, with trophy victories being the most prominent indicator of a team's success. Trophies play a key role in discussions about which clubs are considered the most illustrious, so here we take a look at the most significant trophy win for each side taking part in the 2024/25 Premier League season.

Arsenal (2004 Premier League)

Winning the Premier League is difficult enough, but going unbeaten has only ever happened once, when Arsenal achieved the feat during the 2003/04 season. Arsène Wenger's men had 26 wins and 12 draws, accumulating 90 points—the 'Invincibles.'

Aston Villa (1982 European Cup)

Aston Villa have a storied history, but their biggest trophy success came in 1982 when they lifted their one and only European Cup. Legendary striker Peter Withe scored the game's only goal in the 67th minute to help them past Bayern Munich.

Bournemouth (2015 Championship)

AFC Bournemouth spent most of their history in the lower leagues of English Football and are yet to win a major trophy. Their biggest on record was winning the EFL Championship in 2015, which secured their first-ever promotion to the Premier League on the last day of the season.

Brentford (2021 Championship Playoff)

Brentford are yet to win a major trophy, so their most significant success to date is winning the 2021 Championship Playoffs to secure promotion to the Premier League. According to Sky Sports, Ivan Toney and Emiliano Marcondes scored the goals to secure a 2-0 win over Swansea City.

Brighton (1910 Charity Shield)

The only major trophy that Brighton have won is the 1910 Charity Shield. The 'Seagulls' were the 1910 Southern League champions and faced Football League winners Aston Villa in the game. Brighton attacker Charlie Webb scored the only goal of the game.

Chelsea (2005 Premier League)

Chelsea have won a catalogue of trophies in its history, but their 2005 Premier League title was record-breaking. Under José Mourinho, they scored a then-record 95 points and secured a record 29 wins. However, the most impressive record was the goals conceded in the season (15 against).

Crystal Palace (1991 Full Members’ Cup)

The Full Members' Cup was set up for teams in the top two divisions, while English clubs were banned from European competitions (1985-1992). In the final, Crystal Palace beat Everton 4-1 at Wembley Stadium, with Geoff Thomas, Ian Wright (2 goals) and John Salako scoring the goals.

Everton (1995 FA Cup)

Everton have an illustrious trophy-winning history, but their most recent major trophy is arguably their most impressive. They beat Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United in the 1995 FA Cup final despite being massive underdogs. Paul Rideout scored the only goal of the game.

Fulham (2022 Championship)

Fulham's biggest trophy success was winning the Championship in 2022. In the campaign, the club recorded 90 points and scored 106 goals. According to the EFL website, Aleksandar Mitrovic broke the Championship goal-scoring record (43 goals) and won the Player of the Year award.

Ipswich Town (1962 First Division)

Former England manager Alf Ramsey led Ipswich Town to their first and only top-division title in 1962, winning 24 of their 42 games and registering 56 points (two points for a win). Ipswich legend Ray Crawford fired in 33 goals to share the Golden Boot with West Brom's Derek Kevan.

Leicester City (2016 Premier League)

At 5,000/1 outside favourites, Leicester City were expected to be relegated in the 2015/16 season. Instead, they created the biggest sporting miracle of the 21st century by winning the Premier League. They lost three games all season and finished ten points ahead of Arsenal in second.

Liverpool (2005 Champions League)

There are plenty of trophies to pick from for Liverpool, but the miracle in Istanbul has to be regarded as their most outstanding achievement. Liverpool were massive underdogs against the mighty AC Milan and were 3-0 down by half-time. The game looked done, but goals from Steven Gerrard, Vladimir Smicer and Xabi Alonso brought Liverpool level. They finished the job on penalties, winning 3-2.

Manchester City (2023 Champions League)

Manchester City may have dominated domestically in the past ten years, but the Champions League had always eluded them. In 2023, Pep Guardiola got the 'Citizens' back to another Champions League final and beat Inter Milan 1-0, thanks to a strike from Rodri. The trophy also secured the second 'treble' by an English team.

Manchester United (1999 Champions League)

Manchester United won the first English treble in 1999, and the Champions League final was the final game they needed to win to complete the historic feat. Mario Basler opened the scoring for Bayern Munich, and it looked as though the game was going to finish 1-0 until a miracle arrived. Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer both scored in added time to complete the comeback.

Newcastle United (1955 FA Cup)

It's been 70 years since Newcastle United won a major trophy, but their most recent one in 1955 was the most emphatic. The 'Magpies' beat Manchester City 3-1 in the FA Cup final, with football legend Jackie Milburn scoring within a minute. Bobby Mitchell and George Hannah scored the others.

Nottingham Forest (1980 European Cup)

Winning the European Cup once was impressive enough for Nottingham Forest, but winning it back-to-back in 1980 is an achievement for the ages. Forest are one of nine teams to win the trophy in successive years, per Sporting News, thanks to John Robertson's sole strike against Hamburg in the final.

Southampton (1976 FA Cup)

Southampton secured their only major trophy as a Second Division team at the 1976 FA Cup final. The 'Saints' shocked English football by beating Manchester United 1-0 in the final at Wembley, thanks to Bobby Stokes's 83rd-minute winner.

Tottenham (1963 European Cup Winners’ Cup)

Tottenham's victory over Atletico Madrid in the 1963 European Cup Winners' Cup made them the first English team to win a major European trophy. The way they won the match was even better, winning 5-1 thanks to goals from Jimmy Greaves, John White (two apiece) and Terry Dyson.

West Ham United (2023 UEFA Conference League)

West Ham United's greatest trophy success was beating Fiorentina 2-1 in the 2023 UEFA Conference League final to lift their first major trophy in 40 years. Said Benrahma scored a penalty before the Italians equalised. Then, in the 90th minute, Jarrod Bowen ran through to slip the ball into the net and win it for the 'Hammers,' per Sky News.

Wolves (1959 First Division)

In 1959, Wolves won the First Division title in successive years, showcasing their dominance in English football at the time. They won 28 of their 42 games and only lost nine. The season after, they won their fourth and last FA Cup final.
