Former Supercross racer Jeff Alessi dies of “massive heart attack” aged 34

Former professional Supercross competitor Jeff Alessi has died aged just 34.

There are unconfirmed reports from Speedweek.com that Alessi suffered a “massive heart attack”.

Racer X has claimed Alessi’s father, Tony, confirmed Jeff’s death via text message.

Jeff was one of the two famous Alessi brothers who tore up the Supercross junior scene. The older brother Mike was seen as the ultimate prodigy, though many believed Jeff could have surpassed him.

Unfortunately for Jeff, he suffered serious foot injuries early in his pro-career that derailed his development, meaning he never reached his full potential.

Throughout Alessi’s career in the minor ranks, he was a factory-backed racer, with both Alessi brothers racing with the support of Honda.

When he made it to the pros, Jeff chose to race with Red Bull KTM, showing how highly he was rated within the racing scene.

Jeff’s career never quite took off as expected after his injuries, leading to an early retirement in 2012, with a brief return in 2016. Since then he has worked as a coach and mentor for young racers coming through.
