The Panthers bet the franchise on Bryce Young in the 2023 draft and subsequently watched him struggle while C.J. Stroud balled out. If the Panthers are going to remove themselves from number 32, the former Alabama man needs to improve, drastically.

Most power rankings you see, including Yahoo Sports and NBC Sports have the Patriots here, we disagree and will stick with our pre-draft prediction that Drake Maye will be better than Jayden Daniels.

The Pats eventually moved on from Mac Jones and Bill Belichick in the offseason, marking a monumental shift in the franchise. They were able to reload with a talented gunslinger in Maye at QB. If it works out, they could be competitive again very quickly.

As Yahoo Sports recently wrote, “Patrick Surtain II is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, the offensive line isn't terrible, receiver Courtland Sutton scored 10 touchdowns last season and ... well, that's about it.” Denver is another team hoping their rookie QB can hit the ground running.

What are the Giants going to look like in 2024? Their offense could be truly offensive to the sport if things don’t go well, but their defensive line will cause anyone problems. One of the more intriguing teams to follow in our opinion. However, public perception may not be on their side since GM Joe Schoen's phone call with Saquon Barkley went public. 

Despite most analysts praising the pick at the time, we struggle to see how Brock Bowers was the Raiders’ answer in the draft, or, perhaps we just don’t fully understand the question as for us the Raiders need a talent upgrade in so many spots.

Eric Edholm for NFL Media wrote in April following the draft, “As it is, they’re in the sleeper on-deck circle,” which is phraseology we enjoy, and it fits the Cardinals perfectly. If Kyler Murray can re-find his play from just a couple of years ago, they could make a push for a wildcard spot.

Will Levis showed something in 2023, we’re of the opinion it wasn’t good, but it was something. He took risks, with his arm and his health, and this year will have more receiving options to look for.

Mike Florio from ProFootballTalk summed up the Saints well for NBC Sports, “It feels like it’s up-or-out this year for both Derek Carr and Dennis Allen.” Honestly, we nearly forgot all about the Saints in these rankings, which says a lot.

The Vikings were able to cope with the loss of Kirk Cousins well last year for the most part, but he is still a big loss. J.J. McCarthy could settle into the NFL quickly, we just don’t see a world where his ceiling is high enough to justify his selection.

The Colts could shoot up our rankings if Anthony Richardson is able to stay healthy and play at a high level. They could be building something impressive in Indy.

There’s a world where having the Bears this low looks silly very quickly, but ultimately Caleb Williams is still a rookie. Despite being surrounded by elite talent, he could take some time to adjust to NFL football, even if his ceiling may not exist.

The Seahawks are in a strange situation, having moved on from Pete Carroll. A first-time head cach often finds themselves with a rookie (or young)  QB to work with, instead Mike Macdonald will be leaning on the good-but-not-great Geno Smith to kick off his head coaching tenure, it will be interesting to see how this goes.

Are the Jags a serious franchise? That’s the question they need to answer this season, with Mike Florio writing, “They fell apart down the stretch last year. They need to prove that it was a fluke.” There is some suspicion the Lawrence/Pederson axis isn’t quite what we’ve been promised.

The less we say about the Falcons’ draft and free agency, the better. This is a strange franchise with two QBs who will want playing time from day one and a mixed bag of talent across the board. The NFC South is really bad, so maybe they end up in the playoffs anyway.

On paper, the Chargers have the ingredients to turn things around quickly under Jim Harbaugh, but the NFL isn’t played on paper. Still, this could become a competitive team again very quickly.

We are sticking with our policy of keeping the Jets as close to the exact middle of the pack as possible because we have no idea what’s going to happen to them. Defensively, they could be great again, but Aaron Rodgers is as likely to be injured or on the campaign trail as he is leading the J-E-T-S to glory.

The Rams tried to replace Aaron Donald by committee in the draft, selecting, “Braden Fiske in Round 2 and Tyler Davis in Round 6” and “Jared Verse in Round 1 and Brennan Jackson in Round 5”, per NFL Media. If even two of those players work out, Sean McVay’s team will be hunting for a playoff spot once again.

The Steelers took some low-risk swings at QB in the offseason, adding Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, all going well they could be a 9 or 10-win team again…It's simply what Mike Tomlin does regardless of who is on the roster. 

Eric Edholm wrote, “thoughtful and purposeful throughout,” when reflecting on the Bucs’ 2024 draft class, and we don’t disagree. Edholm proceeded to rank the Bucs as the 19th-best team in the league, which we feel is a little low. Baker Mayfield is still their ceiling.

Will Deshaun Watson ever find his talent again? We hope not, given he is an awful human being, but the Browns desperately need him to if they want to go beyond their 2023 level.

The Dolphins lost one of their best defensive players in Christian Wilkins in the offseason and just look like an identical team to last year. They will be incredibly fun to watch, but elite teams nullified their strengths with ease.

Mike Florio ranked the Cowboys 16th in his recent power rankings and wrote, “All-in, my a**,” which is a reference to their utter refusal to spend serious money to lock down their best players.

Star wide receiver Tee Higgins and elite pass rusher Trey Hendrickson have both requested trades this offseason, per The Mirror, which suggests the culture of the team may not be as one would hope. Still, winning cures all ills, so if they start doing that, they’ll be in the mix yet again.

The Texans have become the case study in quick rebuilds after around a decade of bottoming out. C.J. Stroud may not play to quite the same level as last year, but with better weapons around him, he might not need to.

As Eric Edholm wrote following the draft, “This is a team that reasonably can go a long way, but that left tackle spot is worth monitoring,” following David Bakhtiari being released.

We think Josh Allen is the second-best quarterback in football, and the only one who can reasonably go toe-to-toe with Patrick Mahomes, it’s tough to be the best when your wide receiving corps is as thin as Buffalo’s right now (we know Mahomes did it, but he may be the best to ever play the game).

Another offseason of Eagles-style chaos, moving on from both coordinators, breaking the bank for Saquon Barkley, drafting two of the best CBs in the draft, and trading their best EDGE, there’s never a dull moment in Philly, but ultimately the changes could make them better.

The Lions are one of the few genuine contenders for the Super Bowl in 2024 and should have made the big game last season. Is it safe to say their window is potentially closing after this year with the inevitable loss of Ben Johnson? The NFL moves quickly.

The loss of Mike Macdonald cannot be understated, given his exceptional work with the Ravens’ defense. There aren’t many stars on that side of the ball, Kyle Hamilton aside, but Macdonald had them playing at an elite level. Offensively, this is a must-watch team.

The NFL is in danger of becoming a little predictable in recent years, with a small number of teams able to continually compete for titles while the rest look on longingly. The Niners are amongst the elite, even if an inevitable talent drain is on the way at some point.

Does anyone genuinely think the Chiefs aren’t the heavy favorites to win it all again? We could be entering a period of dominance to rival, and even surpass, the New England Patriots.
