Recommended Fantasy Football Week 7 Waiver Wire Pickups
It’s somewhat hard to believe, but in many fantasy football leagues, Week 7 marks the near halfway point of the regular season. This means that patience may be wearing thin, and strategically sound moves must be made to make a second half surge to the postseason. Here are some players to target for your next matchup.
Starting 49ers running back Christian McCaffery left Week 6’s game with an oblique injury. McCaffery has had a history of needing time to recover from ailments, which put Mason and Mitchell on the Week 7 waiver map. Mason scored a touchdown in relief of McCaffery against the Cleveland Browns, but Mitchell’s presence in the backfield cannot be ignored.
Speaking of the Browns, they played one of the best defensive games of the season against San Francisco. Their fantasy production should continue against the Indianapolis Colts next week. Quarterback Gardner Minshew turned the ball over four times against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6, and will have an even stiffer challenge against Cleveland next Sunday.
The Seahawks have had some standout performances from their young defensive unit. Cornerback Devon Witherspoon looks like a force to be reckoned with, and Seattle has done a great job of pressuring quarterbacks. They square off with an Arizona team that is currently struggling, which bodes well for Seattle’s pass rush.
Don’t look now, but Howell has been one of the best signal callers in fantasy football this season. Fantasy managers seem skeptical of his ability to continue to put up numbers, but he’s been getting it done. To the surprise of many, Howell’s rushing ability has only been a small part of his fantasy appeal, as he has played well as a traditional passer.
Detroit’s backfield is pretty banged up right now, as David Montgomery left Sunday’s game with a rib injury. First round draft pick Jahmyr Gibbs was also not able to play due to a lingering hamstring injury. That left Reynolds as the next man up. Although he didn’t play that well against Tampa Bay, Reynolds is in line to receive a bulk of carries if Montgomery and Gibbs miss another game.
The Raiders have made a concerted effort to feed their rookie tight end the football in the last two weeks. That desire was spearheaded by Jimmy Garoppolo, who exited Week 6’s contest with a back injury. If he’s not able to play, it’ll be interesting to see if Mayer remains as involved. For what it’s worth, the athletic player out of Notre Dame has looked like a viable option thus far.
Not much has gone right for the Giants this season offensively, but Robinson stands to benefit from the dysfunction happening in New York right now. He caught eight passes for 62 yards against the Buffalo Bills in their last game, and has had five or more targets in each of the last four contests. When the pocket breaks down, Giants’ quarterbacks are looking for Robinson.
Hill has been a jack of all trades, and master of some during the last few years. With tight end Juwan Johnson out of the lineup with a calf injury, Hill functioned as a traditional pass catcher. He logged seven catches for 49 yards, and was also present in the stat sheet with a rushing and passing attempt. If Johnson misses more time, Hill could be worth a dart throw.
