Former United and City player Carlos Tevez "rushed to hospital"

Former West Ham, Manchester United, and Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has been "rushed to hospital" in his home country of Argentina, per The Mirror.

According to The Mirror, Tevez was suffering from chest pains and was sent to the La Trinidad Hospital in San Isidro.

Argentinian club Independiente, who Tevez currently manages, released a statement saying, “They carried out the corresponding tests and they were satisfactory. Today he will continue with a series of tests scheduled in advance as part of a general check-up.”

A second statement from the club added, “Carlos Tevez will be hospitalised as a precaution until the corresponding tests are completed.”

The Mirror reports there have been suggestions in Argentina that Tevez suffers from high blood pressure and that this health scare could be related to the high-stress nature of his job.

Reports also suggest Tevez regularly receives checkups to ensure his blood pressure is controlled.

This is not the first incident in a tumultuous season for Tevez, after he abruptly ended a press conference following his club’s elimination from a cup competition, per The Mirror.

Tevez was regularly in the news during his Premier League career, beginning with his transfer to West Ham (along with Javier Mascherano) in 2006. The two Argentinians moved to the Hammers and helped save them from relegation, only for the Premier League to uncover a shady third-party ownership scheme, the likes of which are now banned, per The Telegraph.

Tevez, then at Manchester City also drew criticism after he refused to play during a Champions League match against Bayern Munich. He didn’t return to the squad for weeks after, hoping to secure a transfer away from City. When that didn’t transpire, he “sincerely and unreservedly” apologised for his behaviour, per The Guardian.

Given the serious, and precautionary nature of Tevez’s hospital visit, there is no knowledge of his return to the Independiente sideline, with their next game scheduled for the 12th of May.
